I just wanted to put some feelers out there for an idea I had this weekend.

I have been working on stashing some money for a bike this year, not easy with a new baby lol. After riding a few friends biks, I decided a sport bike would be best for my back and riding style. But had I not known anyone with a bike,  I would simply have been guessing about. I am wondering if anyone knows of a place to rent a motrocycle for the day, or if this even exists in Reno. As cheap as bikes are on craigslist right now, getting something like that started wouldnt be terribly difficult. Just a thought I had. Any input?

No one in Reno rent sport-bikes, as far as I know. Starting such a thing is a bit complicated. Beside insurance, and maintenance, keep in mind that, for example, If I (and most other people), wanted to rent a sport-bike, we would want a fresh 1 to 2 yo bike. I had a friend that ran a "motorcycle adventure company" and had a fleet (12) DRZ 400 and every 2/3 years he would sell or returned (if leased) all those bike and purchase/lease new ones. You could not finance or lease older used bikes. Make sure you're well funded, as this kind of venture can be onerous.

So far as I can tell, Harley is the only one that still does.

I am talking about sport-bikes, not HD or ST 1100 which I think BVH rents.

Yeah I was thinking more along the lines of 600s and 1000s sport bikes.

I can't imagine who would insure an outfit that rented out 1000cc sportbikes to be ridden around by just anyone on the street.

Just think of the VERY skilled riders that get those heavy harley like beasts that don't turn.  Now there's a pucker factor too  :ohno

Just wanted to update everyone. The place in Vegas is more of a side project of Racers Edge Performance. He had a few customers bring their bikes in, and want something to ride in the meantime. He purchased about 8 bikes (assorted 600s, 1000s, and an 848 Duc) to let them rent while he had their bike. Trackdays are the bread and butter, but he does rent to anyone off the street.
