I think it was a Dunlop SportMax.  I'm looking at Dunlop Q3's as the replacement.  Before I buy anything, do you guys have any suggestions or favorite tires?

Well Sportmax is just kind of their catch all for the sportbike tire line. There was the Sportmax Qualifier, then the Sportmax Q2 and now the Sportmax Q3. Likewise the Sportmax Roadsmart was the sport touring tire, now it's the Roadsmart2. Unless it was spec'd from the factory with some low end OE only tire. Either way 5,500 is pretty good for a hyper sport tire, and on the low end of average for a sport touring tire.

As far as your next tire, I would try out a sport touring tire. Pirelli Angel GT, Michilen Pilot Road 3 or Bridgestone BT-023. A sport touring tire offers all the grip you ever need on the street, plus it will last longer than a hyper sport tire, like the Q3. Unless you plan on hitting the track next year, then the Q3 may be better for double duty, at the expense of longevity of course.
