Awesome, I am glad to see Spies being rewarded for his hard work and good attitude in WSBK this season. One of the neat things is he is taking his lead mechanic and crew chief along too which, should be a real plus.

would be sweet to see Spies take the WSBK title with him :D

I am actually surprised he is opting for a spot on a satellite team in Moto GP vs. with a team in WSBK where he is a championship contender. It'll be fun to see how well he does.

I wonder how this will affect WSBK. Most of the races this year, he was the only one giving Nori a fight.

I heard next year the new 'rookie' rule goes into effect in MotoGP and all new riders MUST ride a satellite team. So Ben should get that out of the way so he can get a factory ride in '11. As far as Haga having competition, Fabrizzio and Biaggi have sure been giving him a run lately! :) Imagine if Simoncelli stayed in WSBK on an Aprilla!  :o

Yep the new rule is that for year 1 in MotoGP a rookie can not ride on a factory squad. Some BS cost saving measure. Anyway, since both Lorenzo and Rossi have 1 year left they needed to get spies in now so he can slot onto the factory team if one guy leaves. The yamaha is pretty good as a sat bike according to edwards so I think it will be good for Ben. Now, if they'd just put a bike/rider weight in place to stop the midgets having a huge advantage it would be good.

Hopefully Spies will be leaving WSB as champ since he has clearly been the fast guy all year. He's been really good PR wise dealing with the crap luck he's had this year.

Simoncelli already has a Moto GP deal lined up too. Wow, didn't know about the new rule. That doesn't make any sense though considering how well a lot of the rookies do. Look at Pedrosa and Lorenzo. They came in and were contenders from the gate. I believe Ben and Simoncelli have the potential to do the same.

I am interested to see how the new 600 class in Moto GP will be too. Opens a new door for the Americans.  :)

not too sure on that one.  Some riders are happy being a great rider on sunday and being with the family on Monday.

MotoGPod made a good point on their latest podcast. Rossi should be quite unhappy that he developed a bike that other teammates are now using to their advantage. First Lorenzo and now Spies? I also heard that Pedrobot wanted a Yamaha ride. Yamaha FTW!  ;D

Actually, if you remember the details it was Edwards who had done most of the development work on last year's bike since Rossi was injured and at that time, both Toseland and Lorenzo was new.

Sure, Rossi is a great development rider but Edwards is known for being good too. I recall a Jerry Burgress interview where he talked about many people having the "feel" for development but not too many have the correct logic to improve the package quickly. I think probably the smartest thing Spies is doing is bringing his guys with him.

I don't know the specifics within Yamaha but from what I understand, it is two seperate groups under the Fiat flag and the same goes for Tech 3. I've read that Edwards and Rossi share data occasionally when one is in a bind because they are friends, not by team orders. Think back to the Doohan era when HRC had it in the contract that all data could be shared! Doohan said that alone was a big reason for him going to the "screamer" engine that nobody else found usable since it made the data a little less direct.

Bike development. Rossi > Edwards. Having both on the same team developing a bike? Priceless.
