There's good info here, click on the 'find a bank' button on the right side of the page.

Just like doing business with local bike shops, banking with local banks has its advantages.

Keep the locals in business!

True, but BVH is where I bought my Japanese motorcycle.
It is serviced by 2wcp most often.  There are convenience issues with Wells Fargo that i don't want to overlook.   I'll maintain a healthy skepticism, believe me.

I think it depends on what you need. B of A, Wells, Citi are good if you need letters of credit, large loans, etc. Also the big ones have sophisticated online banking and lots of ATMs. On the other hand if you use a small one there's a slight chance someone at the bank might know your name. I have a friend that works for a small bank, and guess what, he has an account with one of the big guys so he can use the ATMs. So I vote for B of A.

I'd sooner set fire to B of A than ever have another account with them.

That's how I feel about Wells Fargo.

You would set fire to your B's and your A rather than bank with them? :o

Well, one of the banks I liked doesn't exist here in Reno (Washington Mutual)

actually it doesn't exist anywhere anymore. it went under and was taken over by Chase. :)

anyway, i use BofA because they have the most ATMs in town and really good online banking. I have never had a problem so I can't comment on how they treat you then. I never go in the bank itself. i know the interest rates they quote are not so good. for loans their rates seem high (compared to like GNCU) and their savings rates are too low compared to others. For loans I think they want you to negotiate the rate.

Wells Fargo is working out well.  RedLeader has been super.
WF has temporary ATM cards until the real ones are received, online bill pay is super simple to set up (I was worried about switching everything over) and overdraft protection, REdLeader printed me a couple checks (with my name and address on them) to give them to my payroll department for faster direct deposit. My company won't let us use starter checks.

So far, I am really content with the features and the service.  I'm infinitely better off at Wells Fargo.
Thanks Morgan (RedLeader) for helping me out.  Business account coming soon.

My two cents.... went to Wells Fargo/ Wacohvia.....Basically they have a good relationship with my night-job @Amazon.com there was no time delay in opening  the account w/ direct deposit (same day as my hire date).... I've had a checking account since I was  12 yrs old, long before overdraft protection etc...   The first thing I learned was how to keep a balanced checkbook  knowing how banks clear postings (largest amt. to smallest).  Relainces on overdraft protection or not knowing there current balance at the time of purchace is how you get those $70.00 lattes.  Hell the bank will tell you that  ( if you read the fine print......).  In most cases it is the consumer who at fault for not knowing, or not caring,  Bottomline, any finacial institution is in business to make money, exactly how they do it is up to you!!!

Hey Terry,
How are things?

Bank of America was slow, and the BofA bankers I met were, too.
Bank of America never could gave me a debit card on the same day I opened the account.
Bank of America never printed a check with my name and address on it. (only blank starters)
Wells Fargo had the debit cards rushed, which I appreciated.
My experience has been really a much better one, overall.

Thing are going well,  had some carb. trouble on the truck which kept me home today, thank god for personal time...
My expierence w/ Wells Fargo has been vey good so far, the online tools are wonderful &  very user friendly.  I guess more importantly, I'm always acklownledged when I walk into my branch here in Ferngully.  I don't do enough business to be aklowledged by name only time will tell, although it's not really required for my ego.  So far the friendly service & prompt support is well worth my business.   Where as I did not get my ATM card when I opened my accnt. I did have it in hand within 5 dys. and my checks within 10 dys..  Yeah I;m happy w/ them.    :) :)
