These two pics brought back memories. We ate at that pier and stopped at that same area near the ocean to take pics.

If you're making an overnight out of it, I would recommend riding 36 to the coast, then take the Lost Coast Road to Avenue of the Giants, buzz down 101 to Leggitt.  The PCH starts in Leggitt, and for my money, the stretch between Leggitt and the coast is some of the finest twisty riding in the state.  Easily make it to Ft. Bragg for an overnight, then head south on 1 as far as you like.
I like that idea.  I wanted to attempt to visit the redwoods, but shelved that thought once I saw the route trip distance.  But broken into two days A-G, then G-L as shown on Google Maps, that would be an adventure ride for the books.
It's about taking in the most corners to your destination, not about the shortest, quickest route.

Same for me. We stayed a few nights at the Dolphin Isle Marina in 08 after our stay in Reno. My truck had a wheel bearing go, so it was at the Dodge dealer for a few days. We road the PCH, so no harm.

After your story and photos, we will defenetly do that again in 2011.

700 miles in one day, on that bike? You the the Man!
