I thought i would throw this out there because we ran into someone who had this confusion going on with the Power 1's! And Our Michelin Rep asked that we explain this to our local market.  They are getting alot of pissed off riders.

The Power 1 that Parts Unlimited carries, which means all your local shops that are set up with them ARE DIFFERENT THAN THE POWER 1's that the Michelin race tire distributors carry.

Meaning it is a totally different rubber family and tire in general. It is a lesser tire than the ones we or any other Race Tire distributor carries.

It is called a commercial tire not a race tire.

It is a lesser tire. These tires are not the same tires you read about in the performance magazines.

The commercial version Power 1's are sold FOR THE SAME PRICE AS THE RACE VERSION POWER 1's.

If you guys are looking at these tires thru a Parts Unlimited dealer, we can sell these same lesser technology tires for alot less than your Parts Unlimited dealers can get them to you for. I cant believe they are being sold for the same price as the New Technology Powers!

I want to stress that anyone buying these from another shop in town, is getting the commercial version tire at THE RACE TIRE PRICE!

Your paying to much for old technology!

From what I know about the Power One race tires, they are labelled with the compound (A, B, C, or V). Easy way to tell them from the commercial, non-race tires.

A=soft, B=medium, C= hard, V=triangulated front profile

SPL: From what I am reading on the internet, the commercial Power One's are configured for street riding (fast warmup, works ok cold etc at the price of less grip etc). Does that jibe with your understanding?  If you were recommending a Michelin to a rider 80% street, 20% track, not racing, what would you recommend?

Yes the commercial POWER 1s would work in a scenario such as what you just stated. 80% street 20% track. but like I said its not as aggressive.
  But the reason I was irritated was because all the shops here are selling that tire for the same price we sell our race tires for.  We sell this product for WAY less.

Or you could do the 2ct's.

Another good tire for that scenario would be Pirellis "Dragon supercorsas".   These are priced  cheaper and are an awesome grip for both street and track.

I got a 160 Power One B from SPL and used it at Miller (3.0 mi perimeter track) for one practice session on my TZ250. After one lap it got all nice and sticky even though that lightweight bike has had problems warming up other tires and even though my pace was very slow. Also, I didn't use tire warmers.

I'll definitely try the 180 Power One C on my 600 at Fernley when I burn up the slicks I've got. I was told the commercial tire would overheat and get too greasy for an A trackday rider because it uses fewer plies in its carcass than the A/B/C tires.
