To C or not to C.

4th day at RFR, i'm not fast, not beginner, Z2 had mentioned I move to B but I'm not sure about the group disparity with the SSA Track Days.  I'm by no means going as fast as some of the B group runs, and don't want to hold anybody up.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
-chris.

If Zoom Zoom staff thought you should move to B at their event, you should move to B at the SSA event.

It's not the end of the world if it turns out to be a mistake. You just ask for a different sticker and move back to C.

I agree, you can always switch but remember to ride where YOU are comfortable. If you feel comfortable in C and are still not sure about B, don't think that because someone else says your pace is high that you need to move up. If Zoom Zoom said you could do B then I suspect you would be fine and don't worry about holding anyone up.

B group by far has the biggest spread in riding ability. As long as YOU are comfortable being amongst quicker riders then by all means move up. If you are unsure, I would actually say to stay in C until you feel comfortable moving up.

Remember, we do this for fun. At the end of the day, I don't care what group I'm riding in as long as my bike and I go home in one piece and had fun. As long as you're having fun and are challenged the group you ride in does not matter.

That's my two cents. Which, in this economy is probably worth what, pocket lint?

ChrisM

thanks. i'll ride c then.  because then i don't feel like a road block.  at PIR after a few days I moved to B and like said above, it far and large has the widest speed disparity of all the groups.  it's kind of a catch all.

Remember the C group is for beginners and they generally go pretty slow. If your going down the front straight pretty fast the C group is generally a lot slower. To be safe you might want to ride B. You will get passed but you won't be scaring the newer riders to the track. Like some one said you can always come down.,

I like B group for you (based on what you've written)...
Generally the biggest disparity in rider ability is in this group, but you don't have to worry about slowing anyone up... It is my responsibility to get around you, and conceivably, a B group rider should possess the ability to move past slower riders without issue.  In B's or A's, you should be consistent.  .  . not fast.
Can't wait to ride with you, soon.

Hey Chris! I realize I am going to state the obvious but I feel like it should be said in this case. Just remember the whole reason for having separated groups is to keep things as safe as possible. You do not want to be in C group if you are closer to B group pace but not in the top of the group. You are more likely to not have as much fun in the C group in my opinion if you are being held up and not only that it isn't safe to have such a closing speed on some of those guys and girls out there. It really isn't fair to them. The C group is for the beginner people. The last thing we want is people that go out and blow them all away when they are just trying to get comfortable. As was said, don't worry about being in anybodies way. That should be the last thing on your mind! You just worry about you and concentrate on improving your skills and having fun. Don't worry about anyone else. You are more of a risk if you are trying to decide what everyone behind you is going to do. They already have a plan to get around you. Don't try and figure it out for them. You just hold your line and ride your pace and you will be fine. You will more than likely be surprised that you are not even going to be the slowest one in the group. Even if you are, who cares. We all started somewhere! Don't be like Jerome and cherry pick the C group!  ;D

And just to let you know, I got ahold of ADRAGON (he's the one you emailed) and he said he will put you in B group.  ;)

Rick Bay (BRA)

Yeah. Put him on "B" group. He'll be fine.

I am thinking B group as well.  what were you turning at PIR?  1:15 or higher would be in the A area.

ChrisM

yeah, 1:15 would be a pretty sharp time at PIR.  so i was about 6:32.

Nah, never ran a lap timer.  just a couple C days then a bunch of b days on my SV.  which i would be much quicker on around RFR then my cbr.  but whatever. it's for fun anyways. i just wish i had the money for a 600 or 650 track bike and relegate the cbr for squidding round the streets on.
