Why do many local riders cruise around the area (Reno) with their sport bikes at redline (at around 40 mph or so)?  Am I the only one who is annoyed by these riders?  If it is too loud, am I too old?  After all, it has been more than 20 years since I owned my Gixxer.  Hell, they didn't ever call them Gixxers back then.

Thank you, I feel better already.

Regards,
Ghost

Who doesn't like the sound of a throaty exhaust every once in a while <-- key words right there ] I may blip it once in a while but I hate the sound of a constant red line on the streets as well. Are they really always on red line? Or do they just have slashed exhaust (or something like it)?

n10sive

sorry about that. I was talking on my Blackberry and didn't have a free hand to pull in the clutch and shift with.

I'm sure they are not at Redline, but pretty close.  When in my cage I try to get next to them to yell "shift the f'in thing already!"  Next time it happens I'll post the location and a description of the bike (just for fun of course).

i know what you mean but the modern 600's go about 74 in first gear.
I find that the bikes don't work well (don't handle or excellerate) unless you are between 7000 and 15,500 rpm.
It should be noted that it is for this reason why my CBR600rr in now track only.
I think hd's at 1100 rpm sound annoying.
I'll try to answer your question regarding "why?"

I hear you, but what I'm talking about is while they are driving down South Meadows Parkway or South Virginia, not hitting the truck route up to VC.

They sound pretty cool on accelertion, but not in a low load mode at what ever they are turning like 8,000. which by the way for the record was close to redline in the "ol Days"

so Ghost is in fact correct using his scale of calibrated tachometer ears, if the new redline is something like 16.000 I beleive, and the guy was doing 40, which is about half the top speed of a modern 600 in first gear, then ghost is correct at 8.000 (old school redline).

I hate the way I think sometimes.....ir engineer......

i is engineer as well.  Gonna keep the camera in the car for a bit in hopes of catching someone in the act.

Hey Justin, whatcha mean "I find that the bikes don't work well (don't handle or excellerate) unless you are between 7000 and 15,500 rpm"???

My twin (Dragon's, also) wheelies at ~4,800 rpm.  Perhaps you need to lose 2 cylinders   :-\

Miss you all,  Goat

It could just be the frequency that bothers you. A modern 600 does require revs to go anywhere with authority but it has way beyond car power to weight at low revs so it’s not necessary to ring it in town. Times and places although my Harley is very loud but I try to be decent when in town. I wish that bike was more quiet but you can't buy a decent in-between exhaust so it is stock sewing machine (not likely) or loud pipe.

Here is my guess. You’re seeing those stunter guys who hang out being cool in parking lots and have rear sprockets the size of dinner plates. I see those guys always with the revs up so they can wheelie at will. When I lived near Cleveland those guys were everywhere with their bullet proof vests, icon boots but no helmet or gloves. Always riding at 9,000 rpm so they could lighten the front when ever another "cool" person came along.

Here in Reno, one guy pulled in behind me at Micheals (I heard him over my Harley) and I actually had to look at the sprocket... 72 teeth! Given that stock are usually 42-43 teeth that drops the speed in any gear nearly in half. ::)

A DRAGON

Hey Ghost. Some of those riders have to keep the RPMs up that high to hear the engine over their IPODS. I just really like to hear my engine. It's so cool. Those Twins just have presence.  The in line 4's have that throaty sound to ( MUZZY EXHAUST ) OOOOOHhHHHHHHH god that sounds good. ;D
