I have to go through that area anyway, Reno-Sierraville-Downieville, if anyone wants ride along.  More are better and my pace will be safe and sane, alternate leaders welcome.

Glorious fall temps expected.  They should be mid-50's to start, then warming to mid-70s .  Ride start is at 9:45AM, W. McCarran Starbucks, so drink your coffee early.  Late starters should be able to catch up by Sierraville though.

I will not be returning on this ride, instead continuing on to Oroville and beyond.  So plan your return itinerary and lunch hangout.

Sounds like the same ride i am going on Sunday with the Triumph gang:

I think I will turn around at Nevada City and go back home on 49, I hate Rt 80!

Last time I did that ride, we didn't stay on 80E for long.  We dropped off and paralleled it on double yellow road between 80 and the river, then followed Old 40 into Truckee.
Once in truckee, you could always take 267 past northstar to Mt Rose.
Truckee to Reno (rt80) isn't a terrible 25minutes now that the pavement is much better.
Have a great ride, whichever route you take!!

Justino,

Your alternative back over Mt. Rose sounds like a good idea.  Just wish there wasn't so much 40MPH traffic on that highway and no passing lanes.  It would be awesome if we could just keep the cagers off of it.   :D

Do what I do at the track.  Pull off (Ski Area parking lot) and wait for a large break in traffic.  Pull out before the next group of cars catch up.   Maintain slow speeds on the straight, and have more fun in the corners,
but be careful.
Have fun!

Justino, I do that too, yo-yo back and forth.  My problem is that once my momentum builds I want to maintain it past the buggers.

Just got back from a somewhat hairy ride today.  It turned out to be muggy and hotter than I thought.

Hwy 49 and many other mountain roads have road wigs (balls of pine needles) and it seemed every low speed corner was soaked with these gooey things.  Spotty overnight rains left the cornering surfaces wet all day.  S-L-I-P-P-E-R-Y:o It caught two other riders (not with me) out.  Both low-sided, but the first one I saw, an FJ1300, went over the side and down into some trees.  The rider had just crashed, but his buddies were there and he gave the thumbs up.  For my thrills, I overshot the first few corners on 49, slipping and sliding around, before going extra slow for the rest.

Found another rider with my pace at Sierra City.  He pulled in behind for most of the Hwy 49 & Marysville Rd tour.  That was really fun! I told him about SSA and our group rides before he split off to Marysville.  Doing my part to represent, ya know.

Spence, I hope your group didn't encounter any problems today.

Thanks for the reminder of how dangerous fall riding can be in the Sierras and how we should exorcise caution this time of year when venturing out!

We are heading out. I will keep an eye out for the debris. We decided to head back via LaPorte or Bucks Lake.

Yeah, I prefer D/S riding this time of year.  Gangplank and I had a great ride yesterday through the unpaved high country behind Tahoe City on the Fiberboard Highway (06) then over to Prosser, cross the dam and back behind Verdi Peak to Verdi.  Temps just right, Aspen trees turning gold.  Not much mud to speak of, but plenty of puddles to slash through like a four-year old. ;D

One DS bike and one street machine is almost a necessity around here.

WE NEED TO HAVE A RUNNING DUAL SPORT THREAD AND SET UP RIDES...  THE MORE THE MARRIER WHEN ROOSTING YOUR D/S....

It's kind'a OT for the sportbike guys, isn't it?  Don't want to pee on the campfire as it were. ;D
