Justin

After much perseveration, I decided that I don't want to ride anymore, and that I'd just really like to correct spelling-

BUT,
I heard from the MMP crew, and it sounds like everyone had a good time at the free Yamaha track day.

Youngster was moving quickly, and found where he needs to focus thanks to Jenx's on board video.
Kim rode youngster's R1 for a 30 minute session.
My mechanic is out there also, but 2WCP is open
Happy to hear you enjoyed yourselves.

JENX!!!

A few pictures from today.,Thanks to Jen!!!

Well what can I say about this weekend? In short: Best trackday weekend yet. I'll start off with some thanks.

Warning: This is a very long post with a ton of pics.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rick: thanks for going the extra mile to confirm our spot even though Dustin vouched for us. Also, you should let others do some of the driving next time. I dare say that you have gone faster in a shorter amount of time than any of us. You looked awesome out there. You can have T1 all day buddy.  ;D I do not like that turn much (though the braking portion of it I loved!)

Jen: Awesome pics! Thanks for being the group photographer. You did an awesome job. I tried to keep you awake on the way back to Reno but I didn't know Rick had work the next day until later and I decided to just stare into the distance. lol. Oh and thanks for the laughs too!  ;D

Steve: thanks for lugging my bike around. You guys did a lot for us, let me know if you need anything.

JB: you are one funny dude. Thanks for the laughs.

Kinsey (sp?): You have such great riding form! I think Zoran has the choice quote for you but I'll just leave it at that...lol.

Youngster and family: thanks for the hospitality and the coffee run! Youngster, you did great out there.

Sid: Man, you suck if you leave the Reno crew. As always, thanks for the coco drinks and the company.

Now, on to the pics. Vids will have to come later as it takes a bit of time to prepare.

Family moments

The first day was cool in the morning but felt comfortable throughout the rest of the day. The clouds were ominous and threatened to end the day at any moment.

My arsenal for the weekend were not optimal but hey...can't give up a free track day. My tires will hold right?

I wasn't worried about the front at all but the rear was a different story. Used takeoffs from Steve and around a couple of hard days on em. They held ok but I can tell where they were at (especially at the very edge - which I didn't venture much on  :P) and it slipped some after a couple of sessions on em.

That wasn't the worrisome part...

More on that later...oh btw, for those that don't know. That was from a little on/off curb/dirt exploration at 90+  :o For now, Action pics from everybody!

Talking about the day so far

The first day was a blast. New track new experience. I was having so much fun that i didn't care for the clouds. Until the first sign of rain. A drop here or two after lunch but it wasn't a big deal. I let off the throttle some when ever I saw it but it didn't rain...until around 3pm.

The last session of the first day is probably the best time I had around ANY track. The 1st lap was dry. No fuss just going around at moderate speed. The 2nd lap is when it got interesting. I was going through the front straight when I noticed the rain drops. It was too late to really adjust my braking since I was committed but there were no problems. By the time I took the first left hairpin, the rain was gone. Then the next lap and again at the back end of the straight. The clouds looked quite darker and then it hit me - hail?! No way that was true but it sure felt like it! It was actually heavy drops of rain and at the speed I was going it might as well be me getting hit with that stuff. I reassessed the situation - come in or stay? How is my body feeling? Great! How about the tires? Are they holding up fine? Yes, with a bit more slippage. Track condition? WET WET WET all around. FUUUU, whatever let's go! (with the biggest shit eating grin on my face). I was in love. The conditions, the feel, the rain, the atmosphere all combined into this natural high and I was flying! (relatively 8)). I was a bit apprehensive with my braking but got over it since I could "feel" it. I could feel my rear tire slipping left and right and my throttle hand as steady as ever. All I could worry about was, "it's wet, slow down a bit and adjust your braking, entry, and exit points." I even passed the guy on the R1 that was gaining tenths on me on every corner! I was going to pass him on "Attitudes" but that would have been stupid and risky for both of us - not worth it. I came close though and eventually passed him on the next bend.  That session was, without a doubt, the best session I have ever had! I only pulled in because it seemed like nobody else was out there except for me...too bad. I wish I could have stayed out there longer.  :'(

When I pulled in to the pits, everybody had already prepped the bikes for the next day and they were already in normal clothes.

We ate some great Greek food and then went back to the hotel. I had new worries: 3 chapters and 3 online test....ugh. Rick was sleeping away with Jen in his arms. Sid was enjoying some online stuff: MMA and MotoGP as well as studying the course over and over for the next day and I was stuck reading and test taking...lol. I wish I had more sleep for the next day...though Sid did sleep 1 hr or so later because of the GP festivities.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE 2ND DAY

Cold. VERY COLD. Though the sun was out and there were fewer clouds than the day before, it was colder. Our crew had a late start and we did not get to the track until after the 1st A session. Steve warned us of the conditions that lay ahead and we donned extra layers.

The prep

This is the part where I found out my limiter...remember this?

*Well, when I checked my tire pressure, I was (not) surprised to find out that I had only about 10 PSI in the rear. The front was of course fine. I put in air and it's gone by the next session. I repeated this process the whole day. Am I a fool for soldiering on with this situation? Hey, "it worked fine out there at least..."  ;D

Steve: "my hands are freezing!"

"Doing a good job boys!" lol

That must have been a damn fine chair...

This was a common sight for the 2nd day

This day went off without a hitch and off we go with the action pics!

When the big boys come out to play

The guys bitched and moaned about moving bikes for this pic but it turned out great! Although I much prefer this version since everybody is smiling...but Steve seems to want a handful of my ass or something...lol

Race direction couldn't call it and the R6C boys were about to throw down...this was the only way to decide 1st place.

Sid: "You are too slow to be in 1st place"

:lol

This was the best weekend ever. I feel bad for those that couldn't go and I wish they could have come with us. :'( Sharing this experience with the rest of the R6C boys and the SSA would have been the best. Thanks again to the crew that did come and I really enjoyed it to the fullest. Jen finally gave up the wheel 2 hours away from home and I'm glad I could at least do a portion of the driving. [/b]

For future reference, Zoom Zoom is sponsored by Yamaha and you could have signed up through this event with them. They had it on their website too. Maybe it will be easier next year to register through them than our local dealers who didn't know what was going on. Might save some phone time too.

Great write up and photos.  I have never been to Miller and you did I very good job of presenting it and your Yamaha free trackday.  How close is this track to Tooele Army Depot?  The chemical and biological disposal furnaces there must have long been shut down, though I won't drink the water there for another million years. I'll be looking forward to the video to follow.   Nice job.
