After today's meeting i had a thought about an event to raise money for the SSA.

How about a Moto Melee-type of event?  Instead of touring around Norcal for 3 days on vintage bikes, we could organize & host an event for sportbikes.

Chart a route through the Sierra, organize (& charge for) meals & lodging, give away some swag & goofy trophies, offer chase truck/sag wagon service, etc.

Sort of a gypsy-rally for sportbikes!

Might be stepping on some Pashnit toes, but WTF?

I'd love to do some muti-day riding with a chase truck!  I'd also like to do some multi-day dual sport rides with a chase truck, but no one has offered as of yet.

Why not charge dues, like $30/yr or something, but allow for 50% of that money to be applied towards SSA apparel and/or 100% towards track days.  That way members aren't really out anything and others who just want to contribute have a stake in the club.

BTW, I liked the board members' fleece jackets worn at the meeting.  Any chance those were for sale?  I'd be interested.  If not, I might have Windy Moon Quilts do up my own embroidered lime green fleece with SSA and Kawasaki/ZX-9R on it.

there are some issues with these particular fleeces, but they do look good in the red. The collar and zipper bother me with my fat neck :)

Maybe Jeromes guy at the mall can embroider some for individuals for a small fee if you provide your own? hmmmm

Dues are for clubs.  Which we are not.  I feel that dues would push people away.  A sence of unwelcomeness among newbies.  We are an association.  We share something in common.  But in the right direction, we have hats and shirts still available.  There had been some cool shirts lately.
Suggestion, I think that any items or clothes might be on a pre-order list paid up front on paypal.  So there is no money tied up in articals in boxes.
Lets not forget, it is and has always been about the riding, the people, not the money.

Yeah, I bought a black shirt this year to show support, but always forget to wear it to SSA night at Vech's.  I understand that money makes the world go around and without it SSA may vanish.  Personally, I'd rather give a little to support something like SSA than have that happen.

10, thx for the info.  I'll need to scope out some apparel to show off at the next meeting/meet-up.

I'm sure Jerome would take donations!!  ;D

I personally don't like the idea of club dues. As zipbyu said, it is about riding, and sharing some common interests. I believe once you bring dues into the equation you loose some of that family feeling. If we all come out and support SSA trackdays and buy and sell our shirts/etc, we will be fine. SSA is surviving and thriving. I don't foresee any problems of it vanishing. Worst case we just go back to a group of people who go on rides together. I don't think we should loose focus of the primary intent of the club, or sorry, the association.  :)

Not dues for the sake of association dues.

I still favor the idea of dues to be affiliated, with nullification of those dues for members that contribute the most to the association, as I mentioned above.  It wouldn't mean riders would be any less welcome on rides, just that they are not members.  Members contribute to the association and the association gives back to its members.  And that seems to be what the SSA does now.
