Thanks for all the input, it's very helpful.

Sounds like Verizon has the best coverage for anywhere out of town, or on the road,  and ATT has the best phone.

Is it possible to make the iphone work on the Verizon network?  Or are the Droid phones good enough that it wouldn't be worth the trouble?

I need to start comparing phones themselves now.  Is the iphone really best?  How do the others stack up?

To answer your question, no you can't get the iPhone to work on Verizon. Although you can unlock the iPhone which allows you to use it on other carriers, it doesn't work with Verizon due to them not using sim cards. All of your info is stored with them over the network.

On a separate note, I personally have the iPhone/AT&T and do a ton of traveling around the state, mainly to rural areas. I have had pretty much no issues, except in Eureka and Austin, which i had no service there for an entire week. But unless its for work I can can't imagine anyone going there for anything.
