It pains me to say this but for the foreseeable future, i will not be doing any moto riding or trackdays. This last weekend has cost me a lot. The hospital i was taken too was out of network for my insurance, which means a $1200 copay, $3000 deductible and then 50% of all charges afterwards. considering i took a helicopter and stayed there overnight, im sure i will be paying for these charges until the day i die. As for the bike, just looking at it, there is a couple thousand dollars worth of damage and insurance will not cover it. On top of all of this i will out of work for at least the next two weeks, and possibly for 6 weeks. This has taken a major toll on my body and mind and even if I can manage to get back on the bike which believe me i want to, i am not sure how willing i will be to do any major riding.

Just for fun here is a pic of my hand while changing the dressing yesterday:

Good luck to everyone who continues to ride and enjoy it while it lasts.

Sorry to hear that ...

It seems like you should have some kind of base for an argument with the insurance company, as it was an emergency no doubt.

Don't hesitate to consult a lawyer (to deal with the insurance company) in order to make sure the insurance is not shorting you.

Hang in there.

You either have the worst insurance coverage I've heard of, or you've got more coverage than you realize.  See Cobra's post and call a lawyer

Don't go through insurance for the bike.   take it off the street and track it.

I was asked offline because of this thread about the flightcare program so I'll go ahead and do the PSA here.

For $50 annual family membership, you can buy flight insurance via Enloe Flightcare. Doing so ensures all your helicopter flights are covered. They have reciprocity agreements with Care Flight out of Reno too. So basically, you are covered for all of Northern Nevada, Northern California and Southern Oregon. Not bad for the price, and a really good idea for us motorcycle riders to carry, expecially if you're tracking it.

I also do not understand "out of network" as emergencies are generally exempt from this. Especially if you are out of your home state.

When I crashed at RFR last year my ER bill was $23k. BECAUSE I had insurance, the bill was reduced to $4k (what my insurance would pay). I kept thinking.."WOW...that's a HUGE difference! Imagine if I didn't have insurance!" Then I got to thinking...if they could charge the insurance that...then that is what they were willing to settle for. I put that away in my memory locker for future reference.

Tell them you need a itemized bill.  The hospital throws bunches of stuff in the bill to jack up the cost, they thinking the ins. will just pay, and thay do.  It is a game.  The transport you stuck with.  If you cant(willing) pay for all of it 30-35k my guess.  Eat it.  It will go to collections and ruin your credit, so, but trying to pay that amount will ruin you.  Buy everything house, car, beer, things you were going to get in the near future anyway.  It will hit you in 6-9 months.  Tell them you are trying to pay or appealing with the ins. and it should take a little longer to go to collections.  Sorry, I have been through before.  I have no problem screwing them, thay screw everyone else.
