I didn't see anything planned for Saturday, soooooo,

I'm planning on zipping over to the coast Saturday AM.  OMFG I'm going to be dead at the end of it.  If anyone's interested and doesn't mind riding for 200 miles between stops, PM me.  I don't expect anyone will.  Planning on leaving from the 4th St/McCarran Standard station region by ~8AM...and stepping off the bike somewhere between Ft. Bragg on Reno.   :P  j/k

Here's the route

Monitor is Sunday.  I might have enough energy to do both.

Kim and I did this trip a while back. It was right after she bought the rebel. It was epic, dangerous and a ton of fun. She botched quite a few turns, almost got sandwiched by two semi's and froze her ass off late into the night. We rewarded our efforts by taking a an extra day and going to SF for a night. Good times.

edit: I did this trip on my R6. While it is much more comfortable than my 675, it was still a pain in the long run...lol

That's funny. Ft. Bragg for lunch and back used to be our annual solstice ride. I noticed this year is scheduled for Yosemite. Good luck GM and enjoy 20 from Willits to Ft. Bragg, it's the best part  ;D

Riding Skaggs Springs back form Point Arena.  That is a fun run.  To bad I'm at work.   :-[

Hey Wills!  Gas is cheaper in Ft. Bragg.  $0.20/g cheaper.  Road trip!

That ride isn't for everyone, but I loved it!  What a marathon.  Definitely could go for spending the night and buzzing up and down Hwy 1 next time.  Light traffic on the coast.  It turned out to be a 14 hour day and 704 miles.

Bigcat, you were right.  Willits to Ft. Bragg is a kick! Highway 1 down to Manchester was equally fun too.   Ate lunch along the water in Noyo Bay (Ft. Bragg), but that really chewed up the clock.   The locals were very friendly even though I wasn't too friendly on the way west.  They all commented that today was finally decent weatherwise.   Calm and sunny.  Perfect!   Sunday rain.  Only bad section that I found was Mt. View Rd. eastbound out of Manchester.  It has a 7 mile one-lane pot hole infested stretch that reminds me of Oregon Hill road.  I'll take a pass on that one in the future.  And I came home through Downieville in the dark and they must have sanded Yuba Pass tonight, b/c I had two pretty good slides in the sand, sand that wasn't there this morning.  :-\

Pic1 - Leaving the Central Valley, west of Williams.  Pic2 - Lunch at Noyo bay  Pic3 - The Cali coast.  Eucalyptus, sea breeze and natural flowers scenting the air.

You must be ready to head out today from that short ride. ::) We were slammed at the shop Saturday, had many tire changes. I did squeeze in my Saturday BBQ at VC, so I got to buzz up Geiger. Usually every Saturday Brad & I (along with who ever else stops by the shop) go to The BBQ in VC for lunch. We generally leave the shop at 11:30.
The fun part of my job is to QC every bike we work on which includes a short ride. Part of Saturdays list of bikes ridden where a 955 Daytona, Speed Triple, 675 Daytona, and a Buell 1125r. The Buell was a fun bike, turned well, but the engine had a weird sound to it.

Mom lives in Fort Bragg, the wife and I are going there in June to ride Hwy 1.

Is anyone going today?  I imagine Monitor has sand too.  I'll wait until it's cleaned up.

If any of you want someone to ride Hwy 1 with, calendar it in so others can make plans.  I just need to ask one of the neighbors' girls to dog sit.

If you're making an overnight out of it, I would recommend riding 36 to the coast, then take the Lost Coast Road to Avenue of the Giants, buzz down 101 to Leggitt.  The PCH starts in Leggitt, and for my money, the stretch between Leggitt and the coast is some of the finest twisty riding in the state.  Easily make it to Ft. Bragg for an overnight, then head south on 1 as far as you like.
