Has anyone taken the riders test at all and if so is it very hard?

I remember both the written and course ride tests being more difficult here than other states.   The course I rode was at the Sparks DMV.  They require that you do not exceed something like 5 MPH and turn the bike this and that way around a cone course.  Problem was, the course was broken up and there was gravel.   Hmm, maybe that was part of the test.

I ran the course with my actual bike, an older ZX-1000, instead of using someone else's Ninja 250.  I just slipped the clutch and passed.  No problem.
It's about taking in the most corners to your destination, not about the shortest, quickest route.

I passed it on my 03 R6 and I'll be honest. It was hard for me on that bike. I actually had to take it twice because I failed it my first time. I hit 2 cones (5 points each) and went over a line in another test. Anything more than 10 points = failure. I never, before that time, had tried to ride really slow in a parking lot and maneuver that type of motorcycle. That is all the test is. You ride really slow and do u-turns, weave in and out of cones, and also get up to like 25mph and come to a controlled stop with your front tire in a box painted on the blacktop. If you run over any of the painted lines, put a foot down or hit any cones you are docked points. I went and practiced for a total of an hour in a parking lot and went back and took the test and passed no problem. I would recommend practicing first if you try and take it on your R6. If you take it on another bike that can turn tighter with the front tire you will probably pass it fine. The crotch rockets just don't have a good turning radius, especially at slow speeds.

That and I don't think Andy has ever seen 5mph on an R6 LOL

I took it before it was changed. Very easy and simple. Might just be better to take the MSF course. No dealing with dmv until you go in to get the M endorsment put on the license. Plus you can get an insurance discount up to 20%.

I took it on a bigger bike years ago. Passed first time barely. I heard a SV works much easier. I have one if you want to try it on it. A friend used it to take the test and he said it was a breeze.  3 yrs ago.   If you  need it let me know.
