Finally ready to make the move from Portland OR to Carson city, NV on Thursday. As posted in my intro, this bike is new to me. Ive done about 5 group rides up here and clocked about 600 miles in the last week. Sad to leave so many new friends but, Northern NV has its fair share of twisties too. Most group rides up have been around 20 riders. I hope to see the same down there. My move in will be done on Thursday, on the bake all weekend!

Riding on the street is a lot like living with your parents.

Glad to see you your coming to Nevada.  It's a great place.

The rides in Oregon are you guys riding in the rain a lot? What is it Like? I feel better about the rain now. It used to be one of my vises.

On our group rides we average about 1/2 of what your used to. But we do stress safety. Some people are offended by that. But we want to keep it safe with no accidents.  Looking forward to riding with another Twin.

This coming Sunday is our swim ride to the Yuba River.

Well the rides Ive been on average about 50-100 miles round trip. Most miles have been just riding around aimlessly. I only moved here from Carson city in January. I had my fair share of rain with that crazy extended winter. I got by bike after the sun broke through so, not much rain riding. One major draw back with the group rides here is its a hit or miss on safety. For example, I just did a 100 mile yesterday. The leader called it a "squid" friendly run and would keep it easy. BS! 35MPH corners at 65 MPH (im guessing) I couldn't keep up. Two riders down! I sobered up a lot after seeing that and slowed way down.  Im way to new for that crap. Doubt ill make the run on the 19th, I need to be fresh for my first day of work. Maybe a local ride for me.

OOppps  We usually do about 70 in 30 mph turns. But that's most of our skill level. Please when you come on a ride please ride your own pace. WE really stress that a lot. I hope this doesn't scare you off.  ;D ;D  I'd rather be straight with you from the jump street. ;D ;D

70 MPH in a 35MPH corner will happen in due time. Im learning my limits for now. Just dont say "squid" friendly and ditch the slower riders (we did have a cool sweep though). Scare me off? Nah, Do your thing, Ill meet you at each check point. Who knows, maybe in a year or two, youll be chasing me?  ;D

nobody ever ditches anyone unless they take off.  everyone stops at the key places and waits up before the fork in the road.  Yes there are some very fast riders, but nobody wants to scrape you off the pavement.  Like ADragon says 'Ride your own pace.'
When I am leading, I would always rather have a slow day than have a crash.  Ask Youngster 775. . . he credits me for saving his life on the first SSA ride he went on (The yuba swim ride)

born and raised in NV.  UNR, etc...
Lived in Portland for 10 years.

There is no better road riding in the country then Oregon.  Those who know, know.  I put on 75+k over 6 bikes in 9 years there.  Did you do a Sweet Ride saturday night, was that the group ride you did?

It's good here, there are roads to scratch the itch, but it's nothing like there.  Windy ridge on a wed, with no cars and it being forest service road so the tickets wouldn't even be reported to the dmv, just a park fine..., highway 53, hell if time was short Germantown to Skyline to Cornelius Pass; ugh i miss the roads and lack of traffic on the secret twisties there.  500-600 mile day rides were normal, and you never were slabbing in a straight line for more then 4-5 miles.

The NW is awesome street riding.  Slabbing it from Spanish Springs to VC, Mt. rose, Garndnerville, etc.. to get on a semi windy road that may or may not be full of traffic makes me want to make my sportbike track only and buy a tourer.  I love my family and my home state for lots of reasons, street riding isn't one of them.  I travel for work 100% of the time and I've yet to find a better selection of unoccupied twisty bits then portland's surrounding areas.  (Small exception, Paige and I just rode a BMW 800 1500 miles through the Basque territory's in Spain and that was pretty epic..)

Germantown, skyline, and bald peak were at the top of my list. Over on the east side out side of troutdale has some great rides too.  ;D

Suckerpunch. That route looks awesome. How many sunny days did you have there? I know It rains or drizzles all the time. But it really looks great. I'm going to have to take some time to try that.

Jerome, we did several thousand miles a year there in perfect conditions, 65-90 deg f and shady or sunny.  you just pick your days and go.   i felt like the NW riding season is as long or longer then ours here.
