Excursions would be relatively short hikes <6 miles total or whatever is agreed upon (shorter/longer).  Early summer ones would be to locations where there are seasonal water falls, like those in Yosemite and elsewhere.  In the Fall there are some mountain peaks that are relatively easy to hike up to, like Sierra Buttes near Sierra City.

It's about taking in the most corners to your destination, not about the shortest, quickest route.

I did Job's Peak (south rim of Tahoe) Monday. 11,000'!  :o

Made the hike in a little over 2 hrs. It's 1000 vertical climb over 2 miles. GREAT views!!!

Video shows Heavenly to the North, and Job's Sister and Freal Peaks to the West. Minden/Gardnerville underneath :)

So did I, except I didn't know which one was Job's or Freal and went from the trailhead on Oneida Street (SLT) to the Rim Trail south to where I could see the hwy 88/89 T.  Someday I'll like to stand where you were, b/c I hiked for about 7 hours and didn't see anything near what you did.  :rant

Nope.  I made it up to the saddle, south of Freal, started going north to Star Lake, but then turned back b/c my goal was Job's.  Went south up the Rim Trail up to some plateau and by then, figured I'd gone about 5 miles and decided to turn back.  WHERE the freak is Job's???  I ended up at 38°48'52.04"N -119°55'52.64"W, so you guys were probably still 4 or 5 miles from where I was.

That would have been awesome to hike back 5 miles, be lost as I was as to Job's Peak then have you come to the rescue, 'Oh hey GM, lost?  It's right over here.'  :crazy  Kinda freaky.

That's more of what I was wondering; what your route was.  But what's missing is how you managed to only hike from 9,000 ft to 11,000 ft.  Did you dirt/mountain bike or horse ride in to a point then hike or are you a master of levitation?

There is a road. I marked out the route from the turn off from hwy 89. That is why there are two "Stay left" markers  ;) . If you do satellite view you can see it. Where you start the hike is the end of the road (literally).

:thumbup  Thanks again.  It looks like the trail from 89 to the trailhead would be ideal for a mountain bike.  I might get a wild hair to go do this soon and actually accomplish my goal of climbing Job's Peak.   I'm jazzed again!!

Can I laugh at the 3 votes?  :D

Come on now, let's hear everyone's opinion!  :help   I don't think we are going to get graded on them, at least I hope not in my case.  hahaha

depends on the excursion for me.
:( Ride 7523mi to Kathmandu and climb Mt. Everest --- no thanks
;) Ride 5mi to a bar and climb to the top of a bar stool --- most definitely!

The longer and longer rides are my fault.  Wills, BigCat and myself like to ride and make a day of it.  After a while we just assume everybody does too.  Short rides are fine too.  I've seen several people post about short VC runs.  Feel free to calendar or post up short rides at your leisure.  I'd welcome the change of pace.

More hiking photos: Half Dome diving board.  From a period when I was more careless.
