...but y'all are welcome to come along for whatever portion you'd like.  I know Sierra City is doing their Oktoberfest SAT-SUN, so hopefully I'm not chancing fate by getting on the road with any local drunks.

Here's my proposed route map and spelled out: Reno, Sierraville, Sierra City, Downieville, Oroville, Quincy via hwy 70 (stopping to take pictures along the way) and back to Reno.

Start time is 9:30AM sharp, north route starting point.
It's about taking in the most corners to your destination, not about the shortest, quickest route.

Green Machine. I'm heading out of town on Sunday afternoon. Sorry I'll have to miss this one.  Sounds like a good route.  Fall riding is just plain fun.  Thai food for lunch is even better :cheers

Can't make this weekend.  But, I would love to get one more SSA ride in before the weather gets too ugly.  That's gonna be a fun route and looks like you'll have good weather!
Thanks to Sidi|Motion Pro|Vortex|Carters|Shoei for the support in 2019

The route is definitely not for everyone, but we did it once already back in May.  Qwik and Brian were there, led by Bigcat and myself somewhere back.  When we stopped we talked about how great it would have been to stop for food along the hwy 70 river.  It's so majestic.  I'm gonna find some good picture angles with the train trestles that crisscross the river.  And if time permits I'm thinking of finding an access rode that goes down the west canyon to the river.  From the road it looks like a mile down.

To ADragon, Wills, Bill and Johnny for all your help today and offers to help  :angel :angel :angel :angel

I'm back home 9 1/2 hours after my tire blew out, just up the hwy in fact, from the River Cafe on Hwy 70 where I've always wanted to stop.  Well today I got my chance.

A rock made two nice cuts in my rear tire, conveniently in the rain groove and the sidewall.  What a nightmare!  I hope I don't have to repeat that ordeal ever again!  No phone service, nobody stopping to help, not even sport riders...the few that they were.

Thanks guys for offering to help and take time out from your weekend to come to the rescue of another rider.  It's not expected, but very much appreciated.  Thx. SSA!

I told you that bike is not a dual sport, stay off the gravel roads. :|)
Does 70 have any turns between Oroville & Quincy or is it as boring and loaded with ticket masters like it is after Quincy? If my project is completed as scheduled this ride may be the test.

It took a dirt poor cook at the cafe to volunteer assistance and even he had to admit that he wasn't well liked by the locals.  Very interesting individual when you get to the nitty gritty of 'local' life elsewhere.

The CHP officer that stopped to ultimately assist was a rookie stationed in Quincy.  Hwy 70 is his beat and he said he goes out at the beginning of every drive stopping and clearing rocks and debris from the road.  But despite his best efforts he told me, motorcycle flats are a common occurrence on that stretch.

Wills, common!  You've been on 70, haven't you?  There's some reasonably descent turns on the west side over by Lake Oroville, but for the most part it's a road better suited for Harleys, mostly sweepers.  A good excursion would be the hwy 89 turnoff north of Quincy.  It's about 7 miles long and heads along a river fork into Crescent Mills & Lake Almanor.

Doah...sucks man, sorry to hear about that!

I'm thinking maybe a 49 to Laporte, shorter but more interesting.

Green Machine.  So sorry I couldn't come to you assistance.  I did what I could. I'm glad it did help. I haven't seen that very often.  But flats suck on a ride.  :hbang At one point we started carrying plugs  so we could fix a flat on a ride.  That wouldn't have done you any good.

I am up for a ride this weekend if your going though. :GrnWheelie

Thanks Johnny for trying to be there to help out to.  :thumbup It was great working with you.  That's one of the reasons we started SSA.  So we could help out each other when we ride.

The bike should be ready by Sunday.  I haven't inspected the front tire yet for damage.  Damn.  I just put the thing on the day before too!  Here's to hoping it's structurally sound.
I'm up for another ride.  Especially with the safety of numbers.  Anyone want to start a new roll-call thread?   :grnbike

Now the forecast looks crappy for Sunday, and I have to work at the bike shop Saturday. Well I can at least try out the new goodies on an early Sat ride up Geiger.
