Only 7 rides remaining in 2011.  This is a North Ride at 'C' pace, B+ level hike and it will be the shortest SSA ride all season.  We'll depart from *bucks at 8:00 AM.

This is an easy ride, 65 miles out to Bassetts, CA.  We'll ride out to Sardine Lakes at Sierra Buttes and up the back side to the trail head.  The hike is about 4.5 miles round trip, with the last 1/2 mile being very steep and at high altitude >7,500 feet.  Depending on visibility there will be a birds eye view for 30 - 70 miles in all directions.  Afterwards, we can head down to the Mountain Creek Restaurant in Sierra City for dinner, so long as we get there after 5:30PM (closed 2:30 - 5:30).  Otherwise we can just wing it.  I know the Sierra City General Store makes a great burger.

Travel light, perhaps wear shorts under your jeans & hiking shoes.  There are no lockers where we're parking, so everything will need to be packed in and out.  Summit is 8,591.'
Bring: water (>32 oz), energy bars/snacks, backpack to store your gear, sunscreen, sunglasses, camera, etc

Here's the view from the bottom.  The summit is the very highest peak in this view.  The last 150 feet are stairs taking you up to the fire station lookout.

It will be an adventure you won't forget!

It's about taking in the most corners to your destination, not about the shortest, quickest route.

I'd like an enduro, but it wouldn't be used for this type of ride.  Yuba Pass riding fun would be lost on a dirt bike IMO.  If I remember correctly, I only had to ride the bike about 100 feet in dirt.  I wanted a shady spot and it was worth the ride.  Nobody messed with the bike and very few people ever venture past Sardine Lakes.

On one note, if there turns out to be very few people posting interest in this ride/hike, I will adjust the ride start time back down to the normal 8:00AM departure.  I'm trying to make a dual day of it after speaking to one of the SSA racers competing this weekend. Ride/hike in the morning, zip out to Fernley to watch the TTP Le Mans 75 minute race at 4PM, then hang out with the racers.  However, their race is tentative at this point as well...may not happen.   :(

All are welcome to attend either way.
