I want to try to go.  How many hrs ride is it.....didn't make sense your map.  Really 4+hrs just to get there before heading home??  How many total hrs of a ride is it???

I usually just plan on being gone all day. It's better than stressing trying to get back at a certain time which could take your mind off the road.

I could do earlier also if everyone wants to. I talked to my noob buddy and he is in as well.

Yes everybody.  9:00AM at Topsy Lane Starbucks as this is a South ride.  This means we'll leave Reno around 8:00AM from the Longley & S. Virginia Street Chevron.

As a help for the short-range bikes, plan on having 50 miles worth of fuel before we get started up Icehouse road.  So between Fresh Pond and Georgetown, don't anticipate there being gasoline available.

Also, I want everyone, including C pace riders to enjoy every ride.  To that end, I'll say up front that the first six miles of Icehouse road are somewhat treacherous and unforgiving road with few guardrails and no run-off.  Please ride within your limitations on such an unfamiliar road.  The road surface has a high friction coefficient, if you find yourself in trouble, continue leaning the bike, the tires will come through.  About 15 miles in, the road will tighten up and head a little downhill.  Keep and eye out on the road surface, roots have raised it near some of the 25 MPH corners.  People have hit them in the past and commented that it nearly threw them off the bike.  After that and on WWS road, there will be nothing but gravy.

Hey GM, I have a noobie friend that is interested. Just started riding and is very slow. Think this will be a suitable ride to bring em along?
If it were me taking an inexperienced rider friend?  No.  This and MRR scare the shite out of me sometimes when we 'get rolling.'  I think there's the expectation they'll need to keep up, even though there isn't, and one wrong turn can have some severe consequences.

You know that road as well as anyone.  I'll leave the decision to you and your friend.

Count me in for sure.

...I may actually ride down to Carson and meet you guys there just so I can get out of the house earlier.
:D  Shall we make it 5:00 AM for you, so you can REALLY be out of the house early?  j/k

Looking to be a nice ride today. It will be just warm enough and all the snow is melted off the road. Yes the first part of Ice House can be tough. We helped an FJR rider out of the ditch last weekend. He was not hurt to bad. Just a little scraped up. See you soon.

Honestly, that ride could have gone better.   :-\
Tell me about it.   :surrender :hbang :respect :bowdown  It seems everyone made it back safely, just shy of midnight, John and his lovely wife are probably still on their way home.  I'm dizzy tired, but I know the two of them must be absolutely zonked.

The SSA family rocks!  Thanks everyone.  I hope to repay the favor some day.

What happened on your "guys" side of the ride???  Us gals somehow all got speeding tickets which we all think his radar was f...ed up.  But like Trinnie said, we had been speeding all day, so someone finally got us :'(!!

Damn that sucks! Well after we lost you guys, (we waited at clear pond for at least 20 mins), we had a good ride up Icehouse but as soon as we got to the WWS turnoff GM's bike broke down. Where'd you guys get busted?  Gotta get you some radar!

I don't think that either three of us would have known where "Clear Pond" was. I am sorry that you waited so long and for the misunderstanding. All I knew was the cutoff to Icehouse, so we took that to Wentworth. We ended up taking Hwy 88 back.

Next time I will study the route better if I don't know it by heart.

Bummer about the bike breaking down :-(

I am glad that everyone is home safe.

He means Fresh Pond.  It's a Chevron station all by it's self along 50 about 5 piles PAST the intersection of Ice House and Hwy 50.

Perhaps in the future that isn't the best stop for gas on this route since it requires riding past the turn off 50 to Ice House then back-tracking.

It's only 100 miles from the Chevron in Meyers to Auburn; everyone should be able to make that.  And if not there are a couple small stations along 50 between Meyers and Ice House where some one could top off if they are worried about it.

Hot weather, separated group, terrible traffic, broken down bikes, speeding tickets ... oh well, there will be plenty more rides to try again.  At least no one got hurt.
