This week's group ride is to La Porte, west of Quincy.  This is a north ride and it's July, so we'll depart Reno at 8:30 AM before it gets stinking hot.

The weather forecast is calling for a low in Reno of 64* and a high of 94*.  Gear up and pack accordingly, i.e. bring water to hydrate.  There are no facilities (food, water, gas) for 20 - 30 miles once we leave Quincy.  I'm taking my warm weather leathers on this ride.

In year's past the tight section of this road or first half has proven treacherous for many riders.  There are unmarked corners without guardrails, steep cliffs, as well as, sand and rock hazards.  I will stop the group before we venture too far in and point out the key turns.  I'll be riding slowly for some time.  Once we're over the summit, the road widens and there are guardrails.  There are several spots along the road in this area that have beautiful vistas.

And YES PLEASE, post up to let me know if you think you will be joining us.  All skill levels are welcome from beginner to expert.  The more the merrier.   We'll probably stop for lunch either in La Porte or head back into Quincy and eat there.

Does anyone have any objections to leaving at 8:30 AM instead of 8:00?

Hey GM,

I want to give you a heads up on road conditions for your route. Can't make it tomorrow, but did the loop today in my van with the wife and pups. I haven't been on those roads and the wife wanted to see that part of the country, so we packed a picnic lunch and hit the road.

The last 3 or 4 miles before Sierraville on 89 has lots of sand on the road from construction. You can stay in the car tracks for the most part, but there are a few spots where the sand is worse. If you keep the speeds down for any newbies, it should be fine.

There were only 3 corners on LaPorte that had gravel, and were all right handers. The first one had lots of gravel, but easily seen. The second one not as much gravel, but still easily seen. The last corner with gravel didn't have that much, but it was in the center of the lane and on the exit where you don't see it until you are almost on top of it. This turn could be a problem for newbies that might panic and/or experience  target fixation when seeing the gravel.

Willow Glen Rd, Marysville Rd, and 49 were clean all the way. Hope this helps a bit for tomorrow. You guys have a blast!
