Goat Roads Anyone? 8/26/12

Hey guys,

Looking for some company this Sunday to play on the goat roads over in the Mosquito Ridge area. This will be a ride for experienced riders only, no newbies please. You should be comfortable riding at a spirited pace on tight, twisty, bumpy roads.

The ride will start at the Starbucks on N. McCarran by IHOP off of I-80. Departure time will be 8:30am and we'll head over I-80 and exit at Colfax to take Iowa Hill Rd to Sugar Pine Rd that drops down on Foresthill Rd. Most folks don't know about this route over the mountain. We'll turn right on Foresthill Rd and head down to Foresthill and fuel up for those that need it. From there it's out Mosquito Ridge Rd for a ways and then a right down Blacksmith Flat Rd which goes down to Oxbow Resevoir and continues on up the mountain to French Meadows Rd to French Meadows Resevoir and then back down Mosquito Ridge Rd to Foresthill. From Foresthill we'll head back up Foresthill Rd and go back over Sugar Pine Rd and Iowa Hill Rd to Colfax and jump on I-80 for the ride back.

If you haven't been on these roads, parts of Iowa Hill Rd and Blacksmith Flat Rd make Mosquito Ridge Rd seem like a freeway . I don't reckon there will be many takers for this ride, especially with another ride to the South scheduled, but I figured I would post it up for any of you adventure types that enjoy ripping up the goat roads . This will be about a 300 mile loop. Who's in?

This would be your opportunity to like WWS with MRR, via Hell Hole.  You could join KKM who's looking for a ride buddy and take in some of the other nice roads as well.  For fuel, I'd recommend the short-range bikes to fill up on hwy 50 at Fresh Pond.  The next fuel stop will be Forest Hill and 1/2 mile down Forest Hill road is their deli-mini mart.  Great food and you can sit outside if you like.

Go have lunch in Volcano and take Rams Horn Road off of Ridge Road. There's a reason it has that name

Hey Sparky, sorry about not getting back to you. I slept in and then watched MotoGP. Hope you got in a good ride of some sort today. Looking forward to meeting you and riding with you in the future. I work out of my home so I can also ride on weekdays.
