Any adventurous souls out there? I'm leaving at 6:30 and will ride as far as I can on 36 until 1;00 pm arrives at which point I will turn around which limits the ride to 13 hours. Piece of cake right! Google maps claims 14 hours round trip if you go all the way to Fortuna.. I think I can do it quicker. If anyone is interested post up. I'd rather not take on such an adventure solo but sport biking has inherent risk so might as well tempt fate a bit more. Oh.. I should mention I have really bad rain karma this year so even though there is not a cloud in the sky in the weather forecast a rain shell is a must!

I'll ride with you as far as Oroville, but after that you're on your own crazyman!  Hwy 36 isn't worth riding all that way for IMO.  How about I let you borrow last year's scenic coastal ride Blu-ray, so you can see what 36 is all about.  Meh!  It has some fun stretches, sure.  But it's not a destination.

See you in the morning.

Right on, starbucks at 6:15, depart at 6:30. I'm fairly obsessed with the idea of 36 since the rain stole it from us on the oregon trip. Plus I think its not gonna be too bad. I mean we were doing 12 hours a day back to back and wasn't too bad.. Whats one extra hour!

You guys have fun tomorrow,  I wish I was going but I've made other plans. Hey TB I missed you at RFR last Saturday. Did you end up going Sunday instead? Saturday June 22nd is a T-Hill day I can't wait. Ride safe tomorrow and have fun.

I decided not to go to RFR cause of the triple digi temps.. I know I'm a wussy! I'm hoping to make another track day soon but have the motogp trip coming up so none planned currently.

Howdy TB!  Oroville to Platina is l-o-n-g, hot, and mostly straight.  And hot.  Of course, the twisties after that to Fortuna are  :angel

If anyone is planning something closer to home & mountainous, post it, I'd love to join-up for a ~7 hour ride.

Happy Father's Day to all    :party

According to google maps, from Orville to the start of 36 in Red Bluff is about 60 mins. Temps are as good as they get so for me it's now or never

10-4 Good Buddy!  Platina (higher elevations, no enforcement, & 2nd-gear twisties) is another ~50 minutes beyond Red Bluff.  Sounds like you will have a great time, enjoy yourself, & ride safe      :GrnWheelie

I've never been on 36.. So I guess what your saying us the start of 36 isn't that great till you get to Platina.. No problem, its better than sitting on the couch

 :byebye Poor Brian!

First off, I'm back after seeing him into the Central Valley.  It was a bit chilly this morning.  It was immediately apparent as we headed up to Truckee.  He had to layer up once we got to hwy 89.  I rode on ahead while he altered his wardrobe.  He mentioned stopping in Sierraville for hot coffee at the general store, but they were closed at that odd hour.  Next best place was the diner at the T.  Hot coffee & oat-meal later, we were running behind schedule, even though breakfast somewhere seemed planned. :dunno

Again, we're off.  Temps weren't a problem from here on out, but it was already close to eight O'clock.  Next stop was for fuel in Quincy and to forfeit his ownership of the coffee.  Across the street he went, returning with snack items for the trip.  Really getting behind now.  We were both feeling the urgency to get going.

Blasted off towards Oroville, but along the way I slowed to allow for traffic to move ahead of the good sections.  When I re-entered, there was Brian disrobing his cold weather riding gear on the side of the road.  That worked out well for me.  I didn't skip a beat, thinking I'll just take a lap, which I did.  Fun! Fun!  Saw Mr. Crazyman off at the east end of town with a knuckle punch before heading for fuel.  That was at 10:30 AM this morning or ~2.5 hours before his hard deadline for turning around.

Hope he makes it.  But something tells me he'll push the clock in an attempt to make Fortuna or thereabouts.
Having a beer on his behalf.  :cheers

Go Brian!  Go!

Yes I'm still alive in case you're wondering.

Well as GM suspected I pushed my turnaround time till 2 but still came up 60 miles short of Fortuna. Damn! Early morning delays really got me. It was so cold going thru truckee to sierraville I literally could not go more than 45 mph and had to stop twice to warm up. Since I didn't make it the last 60 miles, which I'm guessing is the best part, I must try again.

Once back in red bluff I studied the maps in an attempt to save some time home and decided to take 36 to susanville. Was actually really fun. Then I saw signs for Lassen and I'm thinking hmmm.. I've never been.. Better go take a quick peek. Next thing I know I'm thru the other side of the park on hwy 44. If you've never ridden thru Lassen you should check it out. It was the highlight of the day for me.. Granted I may have been delirious at that point.

When I got to Susanville I realized that I had been having so much fun that I had not even thought to stop for a celebration beer. I remedied that at the Pizza Factory. That place rocks.

When I got home I found that my girl friend had cleaned the entire house, had dinner waiting for me, and gave me a back massage. Best day ever.

I hear that it gets even more romantic and loving after you marry, so your future's looking bright.

It does so long as you marry the right person. Just like buying the right motorcycle. She gets even better after her first top end.

Reflecting back on yesterday.. I'd like to mention that if you haven't dragged a knee thru a 180 degree turn in mt Lassen then you haven't truly learned how to enjoy this earth.

Do you drag knee on the street?

You're even crazier than I thought!
