anyone watch or remember "Kentucky Kid". Did you happen to notice what he did in his off time from MotoGP? He rode his dirt TT track! And he won the #1 plate that year! Once upon a time, before all these 'specialists', to get the #1 plate you had to ride multiple disciplines. Nicky's dad and trainer/zen master is still from the old school.

I couldn't disagree with the both of you more.  An enormous value of sports is really to bring people with a common interest, and create dialogue.  I am from a place where a Bernie Goetz shot a few people of another race in a subway because he had been "mugged before." It is place that was one of the worlds most dangerous cities.  The only thing that I have ever seen tear down barriers of social status, economic disparity, and race was a group of fellows called "the yankees."   You can sit on a subway and see a man wearing a uniform, a man carrying a hard hat, and a wall street executive chat like lifelong friends discussing and also arguing about what the yankees are doing or how much AROD is worth.  Also, I am certain that Nicky Hayden has many things he is prohibited from doing in his contract. . . ie. mowing his own lawn, and using hedge clippers. 
Andy,Anyone of us would love to have 10% of his talent. . . but that doesn't mean he is immune to criticism. (about his choices or his silly helmet)

I dont disagree that sports is a common denominator shared between many people in many places. This Forum is a awesome example of that. Its like music in many ways. I also dont disagree that anyone is above criticism. I do believe that just because these guys are at "SUPERSTAR" status if you will that they dont deserve to do the things in life that they enjoy or even have the opportunity to try. They are in fact a lot like you and I (with a lot more money and a ton more skills). 

And Yes I agree his helmet is pretty Silly.....

Never said he was immune to criticism, just it seemed like you guys were down playing his talent level on motards.

Of course athletes have restrictions in their contracts. But as a motorcycle road racer, I  think it is more common than it is uncommon for them to use dirt bikes and motards for practice and I don't see any thing wrong with that. Plus he got some more exposure for Repsol in front of potential future fans of road racing. I think the sport needs more exposure in America to attract more people to it. A lot of that is done by picking up fans from other motorsports to get some interest in road racing.

i wasnt trying to down play his talent level on motards when i started this thread (although he qualed in 17th place or something like that) but if motards is how he practices maybe he should try something different, and i agree road racing needs more exposure but remember QUALITY over Quanity. like kicking ass and taking names when GP is in the US. lucky for us we had Spies and Hacking.
